Mark McMorris took 1st place at the FIS World Cup slopstyle event in Calgary yesterday, bringing home $11G’s for his results. Mark put down a clean first run that was untouchable by the rest of the competitors. Nice work Mark! Contest details can be found here.

Loads of attention has been focused on the technical and dangerous tricks in snowboarding. Much was probably garnered from the unfortunate fate of Kevin Pearce in a qualifying run at the Copper Mountain Grand Prix. Many people have posted opinions and of course the media have chimed in too.

Class Five rider Mark McMorris rode well in the Quebec City World Cup Big Air. After the first two runs Mark was sitting in 1st place overall landing a clean double cork 1080. Unfortunately Mark came up a little short on his last run (back seven) and landed a little high on the knuckle. The final results put Mark into 8th place overall, an impressive showing for the youngster at this big event.
The video below shows some highlights from the big air portion. As you can tell they managed to pull in a serious crowd, lights and cameras were blazing! Mark is wearing a blue jacket with red pants and there is a shot of his double cork near the end of the video.
Mark is in Calgary getting ready for the World Cup event being held there later this week.

Well, Mark rode well at the open but it wasn’t enough to get him through to the finals. We are pretty stoked that Mark was able to ride his way through pre-qualifiers and qualifiers to get to the semi-finals. Look forward to seeing you back in Canada Mark.
Class Five rider Mark McMorris has qualified his way through to the slopestyle semi-finals of the European Open. There will be a live webcast of the slopestyle semi-finals starting at 7:45am MST Wednesday morning (tomorrow) on the European Open website. The finals at the O’Neill evolution in Davos, Switzerland just finished up and Class Five rider Mark McMorris finished a respectable 13th place in the slopestyle.
Mark rode his way through the semi-finals earlier today qualifying for the finals in 9th place. In the final event Mark had trouble with his first two runs before putting it together on his last run landing a cab 9 and a double cork 1080. The competition was tight and this run eventually put Mark into 13th place in the final listings.
This finish earns Mark 593.79 TTR points moving him into 54th place on the world TTR rankings. Mark will be heading off to Laax, Swizerland to compete in the European Open next week. We’ll keep you up to date on Mark’s travels and progress.
