Rail Wars

February 21st, 2010

Rail Wars at Asessippi was a great time. The hill and Xtreme Adrenaline did a great job of putting on the contest and it looked like everyone involved really enjoyed themselves.

For us, the day started with the crew piling into the van in the early morning to make the trek out to Asessippi. Luckliy we had a dvd player and Shrek 2 to keep us occupied for the long drive.

The contest was a pretty decent setup with a host of riders from around the area taking part. Being called Rail Wars, the setup was your choice of a down-rail or flat-box, and a then a barrel jib.

Craig looks on as Mark does a 270 into the downrail.

Some of the highlights were: (1) all three of the Class Five riders at the event making it to the finals, (2) Mark showing Kurtis how to tie his bib around is leg, (3) Kurtis missing the finals because he was doing park laps trying to figure out what tricks he should do for the finals (nice work Kurtis); and (4) Mark and Craig taking first and second place respectively.

A fun event that promises to be even better next year. Thanks for the great time everyone!

Canadian Open Results

February 8th, 2010

After a week of blue bird days the finals for the Canadian Open in Calgary were fogged out. Even though the weather wasn’t the best some pretty insane riding went down. Class Five rider Mark McMorris rode well in the finals but unfortunately had a fall in his run that held him back from scoring higher. Mark finished in 9th place.

Here a few photos of Mark and Craig McMorris from the week leading up to the event.

Backyard Mini-Pipe

February 3rd, 2010

With all the snow that we have had here in Regina it was only a matter of time before someone built a mini-pipe in their backyard. I know I have been thinking about it for a while.

Kurtis told me a last week that he was starting to pile snow with plans to construct a pipe about 12 feet wide, with coping, a tombstone and a pole jam.  Well he pulled it off and the first session went down tonight.

The pipe road really well with a pretty good set of tricks being thrown down. Now that it is up and running there is sure to be more sessions on it throughout the season.

If this mini-pipe looks like fun to you… I can tell you it is. Get out there and build your own!

McMorris Takes 1st at Calgary World Cup

January 31st, 2010

Mark McMorris took 1st place at the FIS World Cup slopstyle event in Calgary yesterday, bringing home $11G’s for his results. Mark put down a clean first run that was untouchable by the rest of the competitors. Nice work Mark! Contest details can be found here.

This is sure to boost Mark’s confidence as he preps for the Canadian Open next week in Calgary. Big thanks to Adam Burwell from Burwell Productions for snapping the photo.

Mark McMorris and The Double Cork

January 29th, 2010

Loads of attention has been focused on the technical and dangerous tricks in snowboarding. Much was probably garnered from the unfortunate fate of Kevin Pearce in a qualifying run at the Copper Mountain Grand Prix. Many people have posted opinions and of course the media have chimed in too.

Class Five Super Turbo Team rider Mark McMorris gives his perspective in this video clip from Freecaster.
